Excerpt from Introduction, Long Time Passing

...I’m aware that many Americans consider my views hopelessly naïve, downright dangerous, and possibly fundamentally un-American. But, look at the ongoing chaos that is the Global War on Terror: the deaths of more than 5,000 U.S. troops and a million Iraqis,(7) the flight of more than 2 million Iraqis from their country and the internal displacement of over 2 million more, and the cost to U.S. taxpayers of over $720 million per day.(8) Which is more dangerous and un-American: never-ending war or understanding that, as a society, we can modify our foreign policies so that we can know, respect, and live in harmony with other worldviews?

The stories presented here put a human face on those beyond our borders who suffer the effects of war…and implicitly answer that question.
